161. .com

160. I'm Workin' #10

159. Welcome to the D

Jay Dilla’s father Dewitt Yancey sits on the porch of the Detroit home where Dilla (RIP) grew up, at the corner of McDougall and East Nevada. It was in the basement of this house — from about 1992 to 1997 — where Dilla (aka Jay Dee) set up a studio that gave birth to his approach to hip-hop production (which is called “visionary” in international music circles). Slum Village, Common, Pete Rock, Q-Tip, D’Angelo, Jazzy Jeff and Erykah Badu are just some of the heavy hitters who spent time downstairs here. Laments DJ House Shoes, “I miss that basement. That basement is the birthplace of so many musical ideas. That was the center for the Detroit movement in hip hop.”

from Metrotimes.

James Yancey aka Jay Dee / J Dilla (1974-2006).

157. 'Lookatusnow' BLACK MILK f/ Phat Kat, del lp 'Popular Demand' (2007)

[Phat Kat]
Radio be like he raw cuz he cuss in his raps
Neighbors say he to loud, he be bangin' them tracks
Fuck that I'm from where gats be busting
For a blunt or some chili fries, give them rats to suckers
Still fronting, ?? still mashing buttons
Since '95, Kat can bless you with the classic rough shit
Scrape that pain, straight from the barrio, blast it, cup it
And the wolves I run with they quick to blast a musket
Same blade you pulled out when your ass got stuck wit
That's what you get when you step to Ronnie Cash with tough shit
Never been that one with that ass, betting to bluff shit
Tuck your ring, watching your chain, your scared we'll cuff it
Y'all some actors, no y'all some actresses
Fucking with Ronnie Cash, so y'all can rest in piss
A in't just a rap, I'm an artist nigga
Don't get me started nigga
The life I live will make a bitch out of the hardest nigga
I need a tech, for post dramatical stress
For survival draw, while soldiers were layed to rest

Hook: [Black Milk] (2x)
Keep going, keep on, gotta keep the streets on
To keep the heat flowin'
See tha weed blowin', on up, still down
Shining, lookatusnow nigga

[Black Milk]
So I might as well drop a verse on 'em
Black teamed with Kat, that's your first warning
Black teams to bat, like how I approach the green
Home run, Sammy Sosa swing
I'ma show you why I'm supposed to be
The real crack music, approach the fiends, they approaching me
I approach a beef around there
Nigga your career will go down hill like Kobe's team
So cold wit heat, the flow cold like frozen meat
The whole damn globe should freeze
Or the whole damn globe should heat like cocoa
Holdin steam, your hand can't hold the drink
Yeah I'm still focused B, still focusing
Showboat like hocus-pocus, take notice
Put a hole in the flow, have your boat just sink
Y'all niggas really thought it was over
Naw, nigga we reside in the Motorcity
Take cover when they roll up
Like po-po when they show up
Sho' nuff, back seat riding down P.A with a chauffeur

Hook: [Black Milk] (2x)
Keep going, keep on, gotta keep the streets on
To keep the heat flowin'
See tha weed blowin', on up, still down
Shining, lookatusnow nigga

153. Ai no Corrida

152. 'You can't Hide, You can't Run' DILATED PEOPLES del lp '20/20' (2006)

[scratched samples]
"You can't hide, you can't run"
"Remember to, always be true, no matter what you do"
"Run it, I never fronted, I got my whole crew life on it"
"Think sharp" "Man listen"
"You can't hide, you can't run"
"Remember to, always be true, no matter what you do"
"Run it, I never fronted, I got my whole crew life on it"

[Chorus]
Any day your last day might come (so)
You can't hide, you can't run
Late night or in the shadows when the daylight comes remember
"You can't hide, you can't run" "Man listen"
Any day your last day might come (so)
You can't hide, you can't run
From the truth, we know each and every day fights come, remember
"You can't hide, you can't run"

[Rakaa Iriscience]
It's like it's "Final Destination," you tryin your best to make it
They say be patient but you know you're cheatin Death, it's chasin
Heart beatin, pulse racin, but I keep the pace and
train to be the best and beat the best by the Gracie
Grappler spectacular rapper sport of altercation
In self-defense we hem 'em up, a tailored alteration
We're firestarters, leavin stages up in flames
Then again we're firefighters, sprayin at whatever's blazin
Crazy ways to express and pass information
Daily makin the best of bad situations
We fight to win in whatever type of test we're facin
Hip-Hop came while they were underestimatin
Amazing grace how sweet the sound, that's what I was raised in
But then the crack and gangs flourished under Ronald Reagan
Life insurance for kids, undertakers waitin
Earth is purgatory, here between the pearly gates and Satan

[Chorus]

[Evidence]
Yeah ("man listen") I stay relevant
Only person I stand in the shadow of is Evidence
Last page, I left off a good look
This ain't the next chapter, it's a whole new book
About to steal the game, I'm a whole new crook
Bakin up that fire, I'm a whole new cook
Get your whole shit took, Cali's back under the sun
So - you can't hide, and you can't run
From the truth, some ain't convinced so they decide to try me
Like I give a fuck, we live from India Arie
They got spies in cameras and trailers
We see 'em settin up though we on counter-surveillance
On to me, I'm on to you, it's no mystery
Better think fast though, the future just your history
It's where the plot thickens, regardless of wealth
Cause the worst person to run from's yourself

[Chorus]

[various scratches from the intro ad libbed to fade]

151. Catarina

150. Dilla Dawg

James Yancey aka Jay Dee / J Dilla (1974-2006).

149. Suerte

No sé si puedo esperar. Me invaden los nervios.
